On the word waterproof

The manufacturer calls the fabric waterproof. We would not: the zips are not sealed, so water gets in at the seams under real rain. Treat it as water-resistant.

On airline fit, and the expanding panel

Unexpanded the duffel is 40 × 30 × 22cm, close to the 40 × 30 × 20cm several airlines use for a cabin bag but 2cm deeper. Expanded to 42cm high it is well over. We would not rely on it as a cabin bag without measuring it against your airline’s sizer.
