A flat messenger bag that unzips along the base to get deeper when you need it to. Most days it stays slim; on the day you carry a folder, a lunch and a jumper, it does not.

The laptop question, answered honestly

The maker says laptops up to 14 inches mostly fit. “Mostly” is their word and we are keeping it, because a 14-inch laptop in a thick case may not go in. Measure yours against 34 × 30cm before you buy. A 15.6-inch machine will not fit — our laptop backpacks are the right choice for that.

The flap closes on Velcro, which is fast and not quiet.
