The manufacturer’s limit is 8 kg, and that is the first thing to check against your animal. UK airlines do not generally carry pets in the cabin — only recognised assistance dogs travel in the cabin, and pets to and from the UK travel as cargo through an approved route. This is a carrier for the car, the train, the bus, walks and the vet, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

On the expanding section

The extension is for when the carrier is set down, not while it is on your back. Give any animal time to get used to a new carrier before a long journey rather than shutting it in on the day.

We sell two versions of this carrier — which to buy

The shell, the steel frame, the 8 kg limit and the expanding panel are the same on both. This is the standard one at 1.38 kg. The other is the manufacturer’s upgrade: longer shoulder straps, thicker internal padding and 10cm more webbing on the waist belt, at 1.5 kg. If you will carry a heavier animal any real distance, that is what the extra buys you. If not, this is the same bag for less.
