Dogat Expandable Pet Backpack Carrier with Extra Padding and Longer Straps

£74.99
Colour

A backpack carrier for a cat or a small dog, with a steel frame so the sides cannot collapse inward, and a rear panel that unzips and extends to more than double the floor space once you have arrived and put it down. This is the manufacturer’s upgraded version of the carrier: longer shoulder straps, thicker internal padding and 10cm more webbing on the waist belt.

Specification

  • For pets up to 8 kg. This is the manufacturer’s limit and it is the number that matters most on this page.
  • Closed: 41cm (H) × 34cm (L) × 28cm (W)
  • Expanded: 41cm (H) × 34cm (L) × 60cm (W)
  • Folded flat for storage: 41cm (H) × 34cm (L) × 5cm (W)
  • Weight 1.5 kg empty
  • Polyester outer, 210D polyester lining, wipe clean
  • Internal steel frame so the carrier holds its shape and cannot press in on the animal
  • Four mesh windows for airflow
  • Reversible base pad: plush on one side for warmth, a breathable rattan mat on the other for cooling, over a honeycomb support board
  • Padded shoulder straps and an adjustable waist belt
  • Two colours: black and grey

Please read this before you buy it for flying

UK airlines do not generally carry pets in the cabin. On flights to and from the UK, pets travel as cargo through an approved route, and only recognised assistance dogs travel in the cabin. No backpack changes that, and any shop telling you this is an “airline carrier” for your holiday is not being straight with you.

Where it does work: the car, the train, the bus, walks, and the trip to the vet. Check your train or coach operator’s pet policy, and check the government’s pet travel rules before any journey abroad.

And one more honest note

The expandable section is for when the carrier is set down and stationary. A pet should not be carried on your back in the extended position. Build up the time your animal spends in any new carrier gradually, and if your pet is anxious, distressed or close to the 8 kg limit, a carrier they can lie flat in is the kinder choice.

We sell two versions of this carrier — which to buy

The shell, the steel frame, the 8 kg limit and the expanding panel are the same on both. This one is the manufacturer’s upgrade: longer shoulder straps, thicker internal padding and a waist belt with 10cm more webbing, and it weighs 1.5 kg against 1.38 kg. If you will carry a heavier animal any real distance, that is what you are paying the extra for. If not, the standard version is the same bag for less.

The measurements and materials above are the manufacturer’s, not our own. We have not handled a sample ourselves, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
